Job summary

BD is seeking an Electrical Technician for the night shift to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment with electrical and controls focus. The role requires reading schematics, handling PLCs, robotics, and vision systems, while supporting PM activities and maintaining safety.

You will collaborate with operators and leads, document work clearly in logs, and perform both electrical and mechanical repairs on plant material handling systems during a rotating 3-2-2 schedule.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. and minimum 2 years electrical related experience.
• Vocational/Technical School (Electrical Fundamentals, Electrical Troubleshooting) and minimum 1-year electrical related experience.
• Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Electronics and minimum 6 months electrical related experience.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical issues on production machinery.
• Troubleshoot PLC and ladder logic; address robotic and vision systems as needed.
• Perform electrical and mechanical repair on plant materials handling systems.
• Document work performed in logs and communicate priorities to production leadership.
• Maintain safety standards and participate in PM activities.

Job Description

Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs production equipment for electrical and controls issues. Performs daily repair of material movement vehicles and the related track. Support PM activities on production machinery.

Night shift 7:00PM - 7:00AM

(3-2-2 rotating schedule)

Responsibilities:

Technical Capability in Electrical Troubleshooting: respond to calls from the production floor to diagnose and fix electrical issues with machinery. Troubleshooting consists of:

• Reading machine schematics
• Investigating wiring and component issues
• PLC and ladder logic troubleshooting
• Robotic systems
• Vision systems
• Labeling systems

Professional Support Attitude: work closely with production operators and technicians to resolve issues in a timely manner.

• Communicate with production leadership in terms of priority and status

Perform electrical and mechanical repair on plant materials handling system as needed

• Perform troubleshooting of plant automation systems
• Document work performed in a timely and detailed manner in work logs

All other duties as assigned by lead/supervisor/manager

Education and Experience:

• H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. and
• Minimum of 2 years electrical related experience

or

• Vocational/Technical School (Curriculum: Electrical Fundamentals, Electrical Troubleshooting, Electrical/Electronics Engineering) and
• Minimum of 1-year electrical related experience

or

• Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Electronics and
• Minimum of 6 months electrical related experience

Other Skills/Knowledge

• Electrical – Thorough knowledge of electrical circuit fundamentals, with experience in troubleshooting, is required. Experience using voltage, amperage, ohm meters, and oscilloscopes. Ability to work from technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot. Ability to read electrical schematics, and wire to a print. Knowledge of required wiring practices per the NEC. Knowledge of safe working practices around electrical cabinets and machinery in general.
• Controls – Understanding and experience with the following: PLC programming, Electrical drives (Servos, VFDs), Robotics, Vision system/Barcode readers is a plus. General PC skills required
• Machinery – A background in electro-mechanical systems and troubleshooting them, especially in a manufacturing environment, is a plus.
• Professional Support Attitude – Must be able to respond to frequent calls for equipment repair throughout the plant. The interaction with operators, technicians, and leads at all times must be courteous, professional, and timely.
• Self-Directing – Must be able to use available time away from direct support in a productive manner, without daily oversight. Must be able to use time effectively to respond to calls for support, and yet still complete ongoing required PM and repair activities.
• Communications – Must be able to communicate to manufacturing, and other controls group members, the work being done and the understood priority. Must be pro-active around bringing observed issues to attention, with possible suggestions for solutions.
• Documentation – Must be diligent in daily use of machine logs to record the work performed.
• Reliability – Electronic technician coverage is vital to plant operations, must be very reliable.
