Job summary

The Paslin Company in Warren, MI is seeking a skilled Estimator with experience in designing machine control systems to develop accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems used in manufacturing assembly equipment.

You will evaluate customer specifications, review designs, compute material and labor costs, and work with design and engineering teams to ensure the mechanical solution is fully captured in the proposal. This on-site role requires strong analytical skills and teamwork.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, mechanical design, controls design or equipment manufacturing.
• Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and industrial assembly equipment.
• Proficient in CAD software to review and interpret design drawings.
• Experience with cost estimating software and ERP systems.
• Familiarity with robotics, welding fixtures, conveyors, or other automation components.
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers.

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer RFQs, technical specifications, and conceptual designs to determine mechanical scope of work.
• Develop detailed cost estimates for mechanical components, assemblies, fabrication, and labor.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering, controls, and manufacturing teams to validate estimate assumptions.
• Identify potential design risks, material challenges, and manufacturability concerns early in the quoting phase.
• Source material and component pricing from suppliers and internal databases.
• Prepare comprehensive cost summaries and support documentation for proposal submissions.
• Support proposal and project management teams during customer reviews, clarifications, and design changes.
• Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools and processes.
