Job summary

Optimal is seeking a Manufacturing Electrical & Controls professional to lead controls engineering for VOME & PTO programs across multiple sites, including SE MI, Ohio, Kansas City, and Windsor. The role demands hands-on design, cross-functional collaboration, and delivering on-time solutions for powertrain projects.

Travel up to 80% during peak program times and occasional off-shift work during installations are expected.

Qualifications

  • Lead the assembly and machining controls engineering deliverables for VOME & PTO programs, from simultaneous engineering through program launch for all Global VOME & PTO sites.
  • Implement and apply standard software and hardware controls architectures across all programs/plants, following the VOME & PTO specification.
  • Ensure the identification and capture of lessons learned along with their application to new programs, as well as the impact to existing strategies and standards.
  • Lead simultaneous engineering meetings with Tier I suppliers to orchestrate controls program reviews with all interested parties. Participate in management program reviews and represent the controls organization in commodity discussions.
  • Drive the controls organization to resolve issues, including feasibility, timing, cost, and workload.
  • Respond to emergency downtime events.
  • Handle current scope program responsibilities.
  • Deliver new model program work for various Powertrain programs supporting and working in either SE MI, Ohio, Kansas City, or Windsor, ONT.
  • Travel up to 80% during peak program times.
  • Work off shift, as the need arises, during peak program install and launch times.
  • Bachelor's degree pursuing and received by or before February 2022
  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of implementation experience
  • Able to read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic prints and design electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic prints.
  • Understanding of communication network architectures and field bus protocols.
  • Knowledge of PTME IT standard footprint applications such as FIS, QLS, QWX, GPTS, QDAS, OBL, PDS etc., & EP-Operator system.
  • Familiarity with program delivery elements from the cost study phase to launch. Process engineering knowledge including GPDS deliverables and plant operational impact of controls designs. Experience interacting with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT, and plant production teams. Self-starter, self-directed with organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Robust manufacturing background with heavy emphasis on production related controls experience
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead in the technical aspects of the role
  • One or more years of experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook).
  • Ability to implement AI Models to existing workstreams to improve team efficiency.
  • Experience using problem-solving skills within FMEA, DOE, DMAIC, 5D, 8D processes. Fully onsite.
