Base pay range

$130,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

About the Role

Our client, a global chemical company, is seeking an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to join the Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) team. This role focuses on designing, maintaining, and continuously improving industrial controls equipment within a multi‑unit production facility, including batch polymer manufacturing, film coating, and converting operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support manufacturing plant operations as part of the Automation & Process Control (A&PC) team.
  • Perform electrical design and hands‑on support for process equipment (drives, PLC programming, HMIs, wiring schematics, instrumentation, motor control systems).
  • Provide technical expertise for:
  • Capital projects (SOW, design reviews, commissioning, safety reviews).
  • Renewal planning for obsolete machine controls.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex manufacturing issues.
  • Management of Change (MOC) processes as technical reviewer.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in manufacturing with focus on industrial control systems.
  • Proficiency with PLC hardware (ControlLogix, SLC‑500, PLC‑5, Siemens), Wonderware HMI, VFDs.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of NEC, ISO 13849, and electrical safe work practices (NEC 70E).
  • Strong project leadership and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
Preferred Skills
  • Advanced PLC programming methods.
  • Industrial networking and communication protocols (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Modbus).
  • SQL database experience (queries, HMI scripting).
  • Expertise in web handling equipment and automated process systems (robotics, vision systems).
  • Familiarity with UL508A, AutoCAD Electrical, and P&ID diagrams.
