Job summary

Medical Engineering Consultants (MEC) seeks an Automation Controls Engineer (PLC) for a 12-month contract on-site in North Florida. You will design, develop, and optimize control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, focusing on PLCs, HMIs, and motion control within a FDA/GMP-regulated medical device environment.

The role requires at least four years in controls engineering, proficiency with Rockwell and Siemens platforms, and strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum four years of Controls Engineering experience.
  • Experience with FDA/ GMP regulated environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • System Design and Development: create and implement control systems for automated manufacturing equipment (PLCs, HMIs, motion control).
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization: resolve issues, downtime, and quality problems for safety and efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance: ensure automation systems comply with FDA regulations, ISO standards, GMP requirements for medical devices.
  • Documentation and Validation: maintain technical docs and support validation activities; manage change control.
  • Process Improvement: implement new technologies; perform root cause analysis for failures.
  • Commissioning and Support: assist commissioning and upgrades; provide technical support and training to maintenance teams.

Job 2925 - Automation Controls Engineer (PLC) - Contract located in North Florida Medical Engineering Consultants (MEC) support medical device and pharmaceutical companies to be more efficient and productive by providing resources, knowledge, and expertise to augment and supplement to their work. Our client, a global medical device manufacturer is hiring a Systems Control Engineer for a 12-month contract on-site in Northern Florida.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design and Development: Create, develop, and implement control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization: Identify and resolve issues, downtime, and quality problems in automated machinery, optimizing performance for safety and efficiency.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all automation and control systems comply with FDA regulations, ISO standards, and GMP requirements specific to medical devices.
  • Documentation and Validation: Develop and maintain technical documentation for control systems, support equipment validation activities, and ensure change control processes are followed.
  • Process Improvement: Implement new technologies, conduct root cause analysis for failures, and lead initiatives to enhance the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing processes.
  • Commissioning and Support: Support the commissioning and upgrades of manufacturing equipment, providing technical support, and training to maintenance teams.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field / experience.
Required Skills And Qualifications
  • Rockwell Flex platform experience highly desired.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Siemens), HMI development, motion control, and robotics.
  • Experience with industrial controls, sensors, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), safety hardware, and various automation technologies.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex control system issues.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, including using 5 Why tools and processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with teams and document technical information.
  • Understanding of the strict regulatory environment for medical device manufacturing, including FDA and GMP. Medical device experience preferred, regulated industry experience required.
  • Minimum of four years Controls Engineering experience.
