The Reserves Network is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer to design and build custom automation systems for internal manufacturing equipment in Essex, CT. You will develop PLC programs, electrical schematics, and HMIs from concept through implementation, integrating robotics, motion control, pneumatics, and vision systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on controls engineering in automated environments.
  • Designs and develops systems from scratch (not siloed roles).
  • Strong experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000).
  • Experience creating electrical schematics with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
  • Robot programming experience (Epson preferred; other platforms acceptable).

Responsibilities

  • Own full lifecycle controls development for custom automation equipment.
  • Design PLC, HMI, and robot programming from concept through commissioning.
  • Develop electrical schematics and machine interfaces.
  • Integrate robotics, motion control, pneumatics, and vision systems.
  • Lead system debugging, startup, and commissioning.

Job Description

  • Lead system debug, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Support ongoing equipment improvements, troubleshooting, and optimization

  • Strong experience with Allen‑Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000 required)
  • Experience creating electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN)
  • Robot programming experience (Epson preferred; other platforms acceptable)
  • Understanding of pneumatics, servos, and automated material handling systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
