Job summary

City of Victoria, TX is seeking an AMR Technician to support and maintain the city's Automatic Meter Reading and water meter systems. The role involves field service, meter connections/disconnections, data interpretation, and safety compliance.

Under supervision, you will document meter conditions, assist with field operations, and handle after-hours duties on a rotating basis. A high school diploma and a valid driver license are required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves and maintains the City's AMR and meter system under supervision.
  • Performs meter system connects and disconnects on accounts, including emergency disconnections.
  • Reads and interprets water meter data and may reread meters on request.
  • Documents meter conditions and related AMR information.
  • Reports repair needs for AMR/meter system equipment (e.g., leaks).
  • Assists office personnel with field operations and account setup tasks.
  • Maintains records of work performed (labor, materials, equipment).
  • Completes work orders related to UBO and other duties.
  • Provides backup during Senior CSR absence.
  • Rotates after-hours calls including weekends and holidays; arrives within 30 minutes when called.
  • Works safely and complies with city and department safety rules.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

Job description

Under basic supervision, the Automatic Meter Reader (AMR) Technician provides general customer service and participates in the maintenance and operation of the City's Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and water meter systems.

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Applies technical skills to service and maintain the City's AMR and meter system with direction from the Sr. CSR - Field Services.
  • Performs meter system connects and disconnects on new, closed or non-payment accounts. May need to conduct disconnects in emergency situations (example: private plumbing break; etc.).
  • Understand and interprets results when reading water meters. May need to reread meters based upon request from UBO or customer's.
  • Documents meter conditions and other relative information regarding AMR system.
  • Reports if AMR and meter system equipment needs repair (example: water leaks or the need for new meter boxes).
  • Assists office personnel when needed regarding field operations, locations of meters and assignments of account numbers to new water taps.
  • Maintains records of work performed such as jobs completed to include labor, material and equipment.
  • Completes UBO related work orders.
  • Provide backup in the Senior CSR's absence.
  • Rotates on "after hour calls" which includes weekends and holidays. When performing after hours duty, employee is required to arrive to the job site within 30 minutes of receiving call out.
  • Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
  • Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.
  • Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.

Work is performed at various locations throughout the City and requires exposure to various outdoor weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, and electrical hazards. May be required to work in confined spaces, climb and work at heights, and lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (i.e. Safety Boots).
