Job summary

Janicki Industries is seeking an Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) Engineer to program, develop, and optimize automated composite layup processes using Electroimpact AFP systems. You will collaborate with design, operations, quality, and maintenance to improve quality and efficiency.

You will translate ply books into AFP paths, support machine setup and laser alignment, and drive process improvements while maintaining strong documentation and safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in composite manufacturing or AFP process engineering.
  • Proficiency with Electroimpact AFP equipment, software, and interfaces.
  • Solid understanding of composite ply orientation and layup strategies.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX, or SolidWorks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop AFP ply programs for composite parts using Electroimpact tools and simulations.
  • Translate models and lamination schedules into executable AFP paths with correct fiber orientation.
  • Support Electroimpact machine setup, calibration, and laser alignment for first articles.
  • Analyze and optimize machine pathing to minimize defects and improve efficiency.
  • Review AFP programs with simulations and dry runs, cooperating with operators during starts.
  • Collaborate with design engineering for manufacturability feedback on AFP parts.
  • Investigate and resolve machine/process issues with maintenance and support teams.
  • Participate in tooling design reviews to ensure AFP head compatibility.
