The City of Lenoir is seeking a skilled individual to perform repairs and routine maintenance on heavy trucks and equipment. Candidates must have automotive repair experience and should be able to use various tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.
This role requires a valid NC Driver’s License, with CDL preferred, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. The position comes with benefits including paid holidays, vacation days, and insurance coverage.
Make repairs and perform routine maintenance on a variety of machines and equipment, including heavy trucks, heavy motorized equipment and other automobiles. Other duties include general shop cleaning, housekeeping and assisting other employees with larger tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have basic knowledge of the practices, tools, materials, supplies, and safety precautions used in repair and maintenance of a variety of equipment, including heavy trucks, vehicles and other motorized equipment. Must be able to use a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment, have ability to understand and interpret simple oral and written instructions and have ability to maintain effective working relationships with customers and coworkers.
Requirements: Completion of high school or GED and completion of automotive mechanic courses. Experience in automotive repair and maintenance required, with some knowledge of welding and hydraulics strongly preferred. Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License required, with NC CDL (Class A or B) preferred. Ability to become certified in NC Safety & Emissions testing required. Must have physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more and to perform physical work, including reaching overhead, twisting, climbing, bending, crawling, kneeling, and squatting.
Work hours/conditions: 7:30 - 4:00, Monday - Friday. Work is performed in a clean, organized, air-conditioned facility. NOTE: Some overtime may be required during inclement weather.
Special Information/Requirement: Although employees must provide their own tools, a monthly tool allowance is provided, as well as a $150 annual steel-toed safety shoe allowance.
