Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all automotive and RoRo operations to ensure safe, efficient cargo handling.
  • Plan and coordinate labor, equipment, and facilities to meet schedules and productivity goals.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Auto Lot Manager provides operational oversight for all automotive and Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargo activities. This role directs and coordinates terminal operations to ensure the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement, storage, and processing of vehicle cargo. This position also serves as the designated Facility Security Officer (FSO), maintaining compliance with the Facility Security Plan (FSP), Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) requirements, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations. The role further provides leadership for environmental compliance programs, sustainability initiatives, pollution prevention efforts, stormwater management, and environmental stewardship activities to support regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee all daily automotive and RoRo cargo operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive gate, yard, vessel, and rail activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and optimize labor, equipment, and facility resources to meet operational schedules, customer expectations, and productivity objectives.
  • Lead operational teams, including foremen, supervisory clerks, office personnel, and support staff, by assigning work, establishing priorities, and monitoring performance.
  • Investigate operational disruptions, vehicle damages, customer concerns, labor issues, and workplace incidents, implementing corrective and preventive measures as required.
  • Collaborate with customers, vessel operators, trucking providers, and terminal stakeholders to ensure seamless cargo execution and service excellence.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to supervisory and operational personnel.
  • Manage staffing levels and labor utilization to align workforce resources with operational demands and budget objectives.
  • Participate in labor relations activities, including workforce planning, grievance resolution, attendance management, and contractual compliance.
  • Serve as the designated Facility Security Officer (FSO) and oversee implementation and compliance with the Facility Security Plan (FSP).
  • Partner with ILWU Local 26 Watchmen and terminal personnel to ensure compliance with Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) regulations and U.S.CoastGuard requirements.
  • Manage terminal security programs, including access control, surveillance systems, credential verification, emergency response procedures, and visitor management.
  • Serve as the facility representative for environmental compliance programs and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support Environmental Department objectives through accurate recordkeeping, reporting, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, stormwater sampling, monitoring activities, and corrective action implementation as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a 4-year accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business or a maritime-related degree, or 5 + years of work experience in the transportation and maritime industry, especially marine terminal operations and supervisory principles, practices, and techniques, with work experience in union labor operations.
  • A valid CPR certificate, Driver's license, and TWIC card are required.
  • Highly organized and flexible.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for the terminal environment.
  • Working knowledge of email, scheduling, and Microsoft systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes - Office Clerical Unit Clerks, Operations Labor Managers, and ILWU workers.

Work Environment
  • Required job duties are performed both outside and in a professional office environment.
  • Must be able to workdays, evenings, and nights. Schedule may change on short notice due to operations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasional.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to people unable to see or hear fast-moving equipment.
Salary Range

$135,000-155,000 per year

The posted compensation range is based on the applicable geographic market for the position and may vary depending on factors such as related experience and skill set. Final compensation will be determined based on these items and other relevant factors.
