Job Summary

The Auto Lathe Machine Operator will be responsible for operating one or more single spindle horizontal screw machines to perform a series of machine operations, such as boring, threading, and facing metal wire, rod, or bar stock. The ideal candidate should have a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and set up single spindle horizontal screw machines, ensuring all tools, materials, and equipment are in place for efficient production.
  2. Insert stock into the feed mechanism and set stock stop to control the length fed into the machine.
  3. Start machines, observe operation, and monitor the process to ensure smooth functioning.
  4. Verify the conformance of first run and sample workpieces to specifications using measuring instruments, making adjustments as needed to maintain quality standards.
  5. Collaborate with the EHS department to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, DNR, EPA, and sustainability practices.
  6. Work with the Quality department to meet all quality standards for AS9100 certification.
  7. Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: 1 to 3 months of training or experience.
  • Other: Successful passage of testing for ABC certification program.
  • Physical: Ability to lift 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs regularly; capable of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and working in noisy environments with hearing protection.

Training

  • First shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm.
  • Post-training shift: Second shift: Monday-Friday, 2:30pm - 11:00pm.

Knowledge and Skills

  • English Language: Knowledge of structure, content, spelling, and grammar.
  • Mechanical: Understanding of machine design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, processes, quality control, and cost management.
  • Active Listening, Attention to Detail, Communication, Critical Thinking, Time Management, among others.

  • Arm-Hand Steadiness, Control Precision, Manual Dexterity, Multi-limb Coordination, Near Vision, Oral Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Selective Attention, Trunk Strength.
