Position Summary

The General Service Technician must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to perform basic automotive services including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, vehicle inspections, and other less technical services while delivering an excellent customer experience. Responsible for maintaining clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department. The technician may also provide advice to and sell customers on automotive services and repairs that are recommended or required for their vehicle.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Learn how to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling, and electrical.
2. Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions to stay updated with rapidly changing automotive technology.
3. Change engine oil and filters.
4. Install and perform tire maintenance.
5. Install batteries and check starting/charging systems.
6. Install headlights and other small bulbs.
7. Repair flat tires.
8. Install wiper blades.
9. Stock and unload tires.
10. Assist fellow technicians/mechanics in performing technical activities.
11. Keep store management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
12. Maintain an organized and clean shop environment.
13. Adhere to all company policies, procedures, safety, and environmental rules.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Valid driver's license.
2. Passion for a career as an automotive technician.
3. Eager to learn and motivated to succeed.
4. At least 18 years of age.
5. High School Diploma or GED.
6. Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
7. Successful completion of pre-employment background check.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands include extensive standing, walking, pushing, reaching, bending, stooping, repetitive hand/arm/leg movements, and lifting heavy equipment (>100 pounds). The work may be outdoors, exposed to weather, chemicals, odors, dirt, and dust. Specific vision abilities required include close, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The noise level is usually moderate.
