Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company in Topeka, KS seeks an experienced Litigation Specialist to manage litigated and complex auto liability claims. You will handle claim investigations, determine coverage, draft reservations of rights, and coordinate with defense counsel to secure favorable settlements.

You will work within regulatory guidelines and contribute to maintaining high standards of service. A college degree and claims experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• College degree and/or 5 years of applicable claims adjusting experience.
• Knowledge of legal and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass written examinations where required by state statutes to become a licensed claim adjuster.

Responsibilities

• Handle litigation claims per office procedures.
• Determine coverage and draft reservations of rights letters.
• Conduct investigations by securing statements and documents (police reports, medicals, photos, appraisals).
• Litigation management including strategy with defense counsel and experts.
• Maintain a diary on all open files.
• Research and interpret case law, statutes, and coverage forms for proper adjustment.
• Maintain claim files and document activity per regulations and company policies.
• Establish and present claim evaluations to secure settlement authority.
• Adhere to Department of Insurance regulations for the state.
