Job summary

Goodwill Industries of West Michigan, Inc. is seeking a dual-role professional who blends hands-on metal fabrication with technical drafting. You will interpret engineering plans and turn them into precise AutoCAD shop drawings, ensuring accurate 2D and 3D representations.

You will read structural and architectural drawings, weld symbols, and shop math to guide cutting, welding, and assembly, while collaborating with project managers and shop teams to resolve design conflicts before production.

Qualifications

• 2–5+ years of combined structural steel fabrication and CAD drafting experience.
• Strong AutoCAD (2D/3D) proficiency; familiarity with Tekla Structures or SolidWorks is a plus.
• Knowledge of steel properties, welding symbols, cutting tolerances, and shop math.

Responsibilities

• Drafting & Design: Create accurate 2D and 3D fabrication drawings, assembly views, and parts lists using AutoCAD.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret structural engineering plans, architectural drawings, and welding symbols.
• Material Preparation: Measure, cut, saw, shear, and shape raw steel components (beams, plates, tubes).
• Welding & Assembly: Join and assemble metal parts using MIG, TIG, or stick welding according to exact project dimensions.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished pieces, verify dimensions against drawings, and ensure compliance with industry standards like AISC or AWS.
• Work alongside project managers, engineers, and shop teams to troubleshoot design conflicts before and during production.
