Job summary

James K. Polk Elementary School seeks an Instructional Assistant II (Autism - Special Education) to support learners with autism under a licensed teacher in a special education classroom.

The role involves observing and documenting progress, implementing instructional plans and behavioral plans, and assisting with IEP goals. Starting immediately for a 10-month term, the assistant will adapt activities, document progress, and collaborate with staff to support student independence and success.

Qualifications

• Education: 48 college credits or an AA degree, or demonstrate college-level skills in spelling, reading, writing, and math by passing a proficiency test.
• Formal ABA training or certification is highly preferred.
• Experience with instruction of students with autism spectrum disorders is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the teacher's direction to include the student in classroom activities.
• Implements intervention strategies and supports (visual aids, prompting strategies, reinforcement systems, communication tools) as directed by the teacher.
• Documents student progress and observations using objective measures and records data as directed by the teacher.
• Confer with teachers regularly to assist in evaluating student progress and implementing IEP goals.
• Implements instructional support and behavioral plans described by the IEP team.
• Maintains instructional materials and student files; manages materials as needed.
• Communicates with adults and students to foster a positive learning environment.
• Attends meetings and in-service trainings as required.
