Job summary

Cumberland County Schools is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support classroom teachers at 459 WT Brown Elementary in Spring Lake, North Carolina. This non-exempt role assists with instructional delivery, behavior management, and student record-keeping in an Autism program.

The position requires working knowledge of effective methods with children, the ability to follow detailed instructions, and a valid CDL if called upon to drive a school bus. Immediate start date and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
• Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
• CDL Bus license may be required and driving responsibility may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Gives group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provides individualized instruction.
• Demonstrates various instructional activities.
• Checks and corrects students’ work while in progress; keeps students on task.
• Praises and reinforces achievement of students.
• Reports student progress to teacher.
• Attends workshops.
• Checks and reports attendance.
• Enters health data and records student behavior as required.
• Supervises students in the classroom and other locations.
• Promotes student self-esteem and teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.
