Job summary

Hudsonville Public Schools at the Early Childhood Center is seeking a part-time ASD paraprofessional to support a student with autism and assist teachers.

You will provide individualized assistance, support social-emotional/behavior interventions, and help with data collection under the guidance of licensed staff to promote student success.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours) or an associate’s degree (or higher).
  • Demonstrate knowledge to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness.
  • Experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand instructional materials and develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Ability to comply with district and BOE policies.

Job description

Part time position at Early Childhood Center, Monday-Thursday from 12:40 pm to 4:00 pm

Summary: The ASD paraprofessional supports child with autism spectrum disorder by providing individual assistant and additionally supporting special education teachers and staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assisting students in achieving academic success
  • Working with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class
  • Behavior support includes physical management and monitoring (training provided upon hire)
  • Under teacher direction, provide instructional and social-emotional/behavior accommodations and interventions
  • Assist students with health, medical or physical needs (eg transferring, diapering, bathrooming, etc)
  • Assist teams in the implementation of positive behavior support plans or emergency intervention plans
  • Assist teams with data collection
  • Respect individual student strengths and needs and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Actively support district, school, and classroom norms and philosophy
  • Professionally engage with parents, staff, and administrators in supporting student success
  • Autism Internet Modules, consultation with the MVED Autism Consultant, and other resources as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:
Required:
  • At least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
  • An associate's degree (or higher); or
  • Demonstrate, through passage of an approved formal state academic assessment in the following areas: Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate
  • Experience in the school setting, preferred
  • Ability to read and understand instructional materials present to students
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all students, staff and school community
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district and BOE policies
Preferred:
  • Additional training and/or education
Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication including emails, letters, spreadsheet and forms Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate basic mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; spatial aptitude to inspect length and weight of objects

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
