Job summary

Washington Elementary School District is seeking a Special Education - Autism Assistant for the Cactus Wren site in Phoenix, AZ. Under direct supervision, you provide materials and hands-on support to special education students, both individually and in groups, and help prepare classrooms for activities.

You will monitor students on the playground and in the cafeteria, communicate with parents about progress, and assist with lesson plans and daily activities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired.
• Completion of 60 College Credit Hours, Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or successfully passed a Arizona State approved paraprofessional test; offered by WESD at no cost and must pass prior to being hired.
• Must receive CPR certification within thirty days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Works with special education students individually or in-groups on projects and activities; monitors behavior and enforces school policies.
• Assists with feeding, toileting/diapering, physical activities, and behavior management to create a positive environment.
• Monitors playground and cafeteria safety; accompanies students to different areas to ensure orderly behavior.
• Prepares classrooms for activities and handles setup/cleanup of materials and furniture.
• Communicates progress and concerns with parents and assists teachers in lesson planning.
• Performs other duties as required.
