An established industry player is seeking talented freelance contemporary dancers for an innovative film project. This unique opportunity involves collaborating with renowned choreographers and artists to create an immersive digital dance experience. Candidates should be passionate about contemporary dance and eager to explore choreography and performance in a film context. If you are an emerging dancer with a story to tell and a desire to work on a groundbreaking project, this role could be your perfect fit. Join a dynamic team that values creativity and artistic expression, and take your career to new heights in a collaborative environment.
Company: NPAFE
Location: Washington, DC
Compensation: $150-$350 / day; more if you are part of the “immersive film-first video” that is taken up in the film.
Logline about the film: A group of fiercely talented freelance contemporary dancers — hustling for gigs, funding their own short films, and dreaming of authorship — compete for the chance to co-create a groundbreaking, “film-first immersive” digital dance work with an ever more internationally famous world-renowned choreographer, a world-class prima ballerina, and an Oscar-nominated Pulitzer Prize-winning composer. The final immersive piece is designed to be seen first on the screen, not on a stage — immersively filmed to envelop the viewer in movement, emotion, and intimacy.
About our search: Our goal is to identify emerging dancers, female and male, in New York City, Chicago, LA or another major US or Canadian City, working independently, who are no more than three years out of school, whether that be university or a specialized performing arts teaching institution such as Juilliard, USC, etc. If selected, you would be working remotely and eventually onsite in Manhattan, Brooklyn, London and possibly Paris. If your career interests extend to choreography and/or the filming of contemporary dance performances, so much the better. Most importantly, if selected, you would be an actor as much as a dancer, at one or another point in the foreground as a person whose own story, own goals, own talents, and own back story would be essential elements of the film.
About us: Founded in 2016 and located in Washington DC with the mission to grow the global audience for ballet and contemporary dance, the National Performing Arts Funding Exchange - NPAFE - is the country's only nonprofit providing complete pro bono marketing services to performing artists in the world of dance. NPAFE also makes funding available to these artists, in the process assisting them in their business planning, programming and marketing. NPAFE is a past and current financial supporter of many individual artists and US-based dance companies and organizations including, in New York City, Sidra Bell Dance, Arts On Site, and Alison Cook Beatty Dance.
