Job summary

WithumSmith+Brown, PC in New York City seeks a Real Estate Audit Supervisor to lead engagements from planning to completion, supervising staff and maintaining strong client relationships within the real estate practice.

You will work with seasoned CPAs, oversee staffing, risk assessment, fieldwork, and reporting, collaborating with partners to resolve issues and ensure high-quality service under US GAAP standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• CPA or CPA eligible preferred.
• At least 4 years of public accounting experience with leadership of multiple engagements.
• Experience auditing real estate or related organizations.
• Excellent analytical, technical, and auditing skills including familiarity with US GAAP.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engagement team on planning and execution of audits, reviews, and compilations for real estate clients (REITs, developers, funds, property managers).
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the audit engagement (staffing, planning, risk assessment, fieldwork, reporting).
• Provide supervision and guidance to staff and coordinate with engagement manager and partner.
• Collaborate with managers/partners on client issue resolution and regulatory/accounting issues.
• Review general ledger accounts and financial statements for reliability and compliance.
• Manage multiple engagements concurrently with various teams.
• Create and monitor engagement budgets for efficiency.
• Conduct performance discussions with team members and participate in professional development.

You'll work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well-known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of audit engagements, from planning to completion, to include supervision/mentoring of staff and building/maintaining relationships with clients in our real estate practice. How You’ll Spend Your Time:

• Leading the engagement team on the planning and execution of audits, reviews, and compilations for real estate clients including REITs, developers, real estate funds and property managers
• Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the audit engagement from staffing, planning, risk assessment, fieldwork and reporting
• Providing supervision and support to the engagement staff and promote open communication to the engagement manager and partner
• Collaborating with managers and partners on client issue resolution and make recommendations for any legal, regulatory and accounting issues that arise during an audit engagement
• Reviewing general ledger accounts and financial statements for reliability and compliance
• Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams
• Creating and tracking engagement budgets to review for inefficiencies that may arise during the audit
• Conducting constructive discussions with team members on their evaluations and providing counsel accordingly
• Serving in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• CPA or CPA eligible
• At least 4 years of public accounting experience, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff
• Experience auditing real estate or related organizations
• Excellent analytical, technical, and auditing skills including familiarity with US GAAP due to the complexity of the engagements in this sector
• Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
• Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to represent the Firm well to client’s management
• Excellent analytical, organizational, project management skills, strong attention to detail, and proven innovative problem-solving skill

The compensation for this position ranges from $90,000-$165,000. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual’s skills, experience and qualifications.
