Job summary

WithumSmith+Brown PC is seeking a senior audit professional in New York to lead engagement teams through planning and execution of audits, reviews, or compilations, ensuring world-class client service.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with managers and partners, manage budgets, and travel as needed, delivering high-quality financial reporting under US GAAP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • CPA license or active pursuit of CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of public accounting experience with leadership of multiple engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement planning and execution for audits, reviews or compilations.
  • Oversee day-to-day engagement operations including staffing, planning, risk assessment, fieldwork and reporting.
  • Supervise staff and promote open communication with engagement manager and partner.
  • Collaborate with managers and partners on client issues and advise on legal/regulatory/accounting matters.
  • Review general ledger accounts for accurate entries.
  • Manage multiple engagements concurrently to meet deadlines.
  • Create and track engagement budgets to spot inefficiencies.
  • Provide coaching and development to team members and lead training sessions.
  • Present as instructor or discussion leader in professional development programs.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Leading the engagement team staff on the planning and execution of an audit, review or compilation engagement to effectively and efficiently provide world‑class client service.
  • Overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of the audit engagement from staffing, planning, risk assessment, fieldwork, financial reporting and the conclusion.
  • Providing supervision and support to the engagement staff and promoting open communication to the engagement manager and partner.
  • Collaborating with managers and partners on client issue resolutions and making recommendations for any legal, regulatory and accounting issues that arise during an audit engagement.
  • Reviewing all scheduled and non‑scheduled general ledger accounts for accurate entries.
  • Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines.
  • Creating and tracking engagement budgets to review for inefficiencies that may arise during the audit.
  • Conducting constructive discussions with team members on their evaluations and providing counsel accordingly.
  • Serving in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • Licensed CPA, or working towards CPA certification.
  • At least 2 years of public accounting experience, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and auditing skills including familiarity with US GAAP due to the complexity of the engagements in this sector.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast‑paced, interactive, results‑based team environment.
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to represent the Firm well to client’s management.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, project management skills, strong attention to detail, and proven innovative problem‑solving skill.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Compensation & Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $88,000–$110,000. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance.
