Job summary

HireRising's client, a long-standing California-based advisory, tax and accounting firm, seeks an Assurance Manager to lead engagements from start to finish and mentor staff.

You will engage with owners, bankers and investors, shape engagement strategy around risk, ensure quality workpapers and reports, and grow the team through coaching and business development.

Qualifications

• Deep command of assurance standards and GAAP.
• Ability to run engagements end-to-end with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication to present findings and build relationships with clients.
• Experience directing staff and developing team members.
• Proficiency with Excel/Word and cloud-based audit platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own assurance engagements end to end, from initial planning through fieldwork and final review.
• Build the engagement approach around a client's risk profile, then execute the substantive and controls testing to back it up.
• Read financial statements closely and translate what you find into clean workpapers and reports that hold up to scrutiny.
• Keep engagements within professional standards and regulations.
• Set timelines and budgets, then monitor progress and adjust as needed.
• Coach staff and seniors, review work, and guide career development.
• Maintain strong client relationships and provide value-added recommendations.
• Support business development and process improvements within the firm.
• Stay current on auditing standards relevant to core industries.

Our client has spent more than five decades as a full-service advisory, tax, and accounting firm rooted in California's Central Valley, working with local businesses and the families behind them. They're looking for an Assurance Manager who can carry engagements start to finish and grow into a leadership seat on the team.

The right person here is equal parts technician and relationship-builder. You'll run a varied book of assurance work, guide the staff assigned to your engagements, and sit across the table from the owners, bankers, and investors who rely on the numbers. If you like doing sharp technical work but get just as much out of client conversations and developing the people around you, this is a good fit.

What the role involves:

• Own assurance engagements end to end, from initial planning through fieldwork and final review

• Pitch in on business development and help sharpen the firm's internal processes
• Keep current on the standards that matter to the firm's core industries

What makes someone a fit:

• A deep command of assurance standards, GAAP, and the surrounding regulatory landscape, plus a track record of running engagements without hand-holding
• Sharp analytical instincts: you can dissect a set of financials, gauge the strength of internal controls, and spot both the risks and the openings
• The communication skills to present findings plainly and turn client interactions into lasting relationships
• Real supervisory reps, including directing staff, reviewing their work, and helping them get better
• Comfort with modern audit and accounting software alongside the everyday tools like Excel and Word; time on cloud-based platforms is a bonus
• A Bachelor\'s in Accounting or something adjacent, with a CPA (or clear, active movement toward one) strongly preferred
• A public accounting background in assurance; any exposure to agribusiness, real estate, construction, or closely held companies is a genuine plus
