Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an Audiology Assistant to support evaluations, hearing aid management, and clerical tasks in a dynamic audiology clinic.

Under an Audiologist, you will assist with evaluations, program devices, handle data entry for research, and help families use hearing technology; on-site schedule Mon-Fri, day shifts with 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree with healthcare background; eligible to become licensed as an Audiology Assistant within 3 months of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications Disorder is preferred.
  • On-the-job training available to obtain a license in Audiology.

Responsibilities

  • Assists during audiological evaluations.
  • Rooms patients and takes patient history.
  • Programs hearing aids for CI and Baha evaluations.
  • Troubleshoots hearing technology devices and drafts repair requests.
  • Maintains a tracking system.
  • Instructs patients and families in the use of hearing technology devices.
  • Enters data into databases for research and extracts data as needed.
  • Checks in hearing technology equipment and documents in SharePoint.
  • Produces and maintains various records, reports, forms, and schedules.
  • Performs administrative duties as necessary.
  • Maintains and inventories supplies; rotates stock; initiates re-supply.
  • Organizes clinical equipment and files; stocks consult rooms/booths; keeps clinic neat.

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Hiring Range: $23.81 - $35.08 (based on a full time schedule of 40 hours per week). Please note that the final offer will vary based on scheduled hours. Compensation for part-time or reduced schedules will be prorated based on scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Under the direction of an Audiologist, performs a variety of duties involving assisting with basic hearing evaluations, maintenance of hearing aids and some clerical functions.

II. Major Responsibilities:
  • Performing assistance during audiological evaluations.
  • Responsible for rooming patients and taking patient case history.
  • Program hearing aids for CI and Baha evaluations.
  • Completes troubleshooting procedures on hearing technology devices, recommending repairs, and drafting requests for authorization of parts and repairs.
  • Maintains a tracking system.
  • Instruct patients and families in the use of hearing technology equipment.
  • Enters data into databases for research purposes, and extracts data as needed.
  • Check in hearing technology equipment and document in share-point.
  • Produces and maintains a variety of statistical records, reports, forms, schedules, and other materials.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties as necessary.
  • Maintains assigned supplies.
  • Assures accurate inventory of supplies based on approved levels.
  • Rotates stock as required.
  • Initiates requisitions for re-supply or specials items.
  • Maintaining organization of clinical equipment and toys, clinical and research files and records.
  • Organizing and stocking consult rooms/booths.
  • Maintains clinic in a neat and orderly fashion.
III. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
  • Required: Associates degree with a Health Care background. Eligibility to become licensed as an Audiology Assistant in Massachusetts, and will obtain licensure within 3 months of date of hire. Audiology department will provide necessary training for licensure.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Communications Disorder.
Experience/Skills:
  • Knowledge of Audiology field and functions.
  • Analytical skills and judgment to interpret data and take the appropriate action as circumstances or situations vary.
  • Knowledge of a variety of basic patient care and office procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy, and the desire and ability to interact effectively with children and parents.
  • Organization skills, ability to pay attention to detail, and good phone etiquette/customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products.
  • On the job training is available to obtain a license.
