Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.
- Education: Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an accredited program recognized by ACAE or CAA of ASHA.
- OR other doctoral degree in hearing science or related field from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology in a U.S. state or territory.
- Exceptions: The Under Secretary of Health may appoint candidates without a license for research, academic, or administrative positions without patient care responsibilities, under certain conditions.
- Experience: All audiologists performing patient care duties must possess a valid license and meet experience requirements.
- Note: Non-licensed applicants may be appointed temporarily as graduate audiologists at GS-11, under supervision, and must actively pursue licensure.
- Foreign Education: Must have education deemed equivalent to U.S. programs by a recognized organization.
- Physical and language requirements apply as per VA policies.
Grade Determinations:
- GS-11: Basic requirements and demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) in assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders, and interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.
- GS-12: In addition to GS-11 requirements, one year of professional experience at the next lower grade, demonstrating skills in diagnosing, counseling, advising, and independently applying treatments.
Preferred Experience: Experience with adult populations, NOAH, ROES, CPRS, virtual care, and telehealth.

Duties
- This vacancy remains open until filled; first cut-off date is 03/10/2025. Additional applications will be referred as needed.
- Responsibilities include consulting, diagnosing, treating, program evaluation, teaching, training, and research related to hearing, tinnitus, and balance disorders in various VHA settings.
- Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
