Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as an Audiologistwith our Audiologyteam at our Hyde Park - DCAM location. Here, you will work with our Inpatient Pediatric team. In this role you will partner with the rest of the clinical team to provide patients the highest quality of care. Our expert team is specially trained to treat everything from mild hearing loss to complex ear conditions. With our dedication to world-class ear and hearing health care, ongoing advancements in medicine, and providing education for the public and aspiring health professionals, we set the standard for excellent care.

Join our dedicated team at the Hyde Park main hospital as an Inpatient Pediatric Audiologist, where you'll provide specialized care to infants in both the NICU and well-baby units. This role includes diagnostic hearing screening, inpatient amplification fitting, and close interdisciplinary collaboration to support early hearing detection and intervention in a leading academic medical center.

In this role, the Audiologist, under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Director of Audiology and Section Administrator (BSD), provides Audiology services (consultation, evaluation, and therapy) in an acute care hospital and clinical outpatient setting for persons with hearing and balance disorders. Provides prompt and efficient attention to patient needs. Manages and performs administrative duties related to clinical role. Effectively manages entry level volumes of patients with basic hearing needs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Audiologic Evaluations:
    • Conduct audiology/vestibular testing.
    • Basic diagnostic evaluation of the functional status of the peripheral auditory system in adults and interpretation of these results. This includes pure-tone air and bone conduction audiometry, tympanometry, acoustic reflex thresholds and decay testing. Position also includes vestibular evaluations, treatment and rehabilitation.
    • Electrophysiologic evaluation of the functional status of the peripheral and central auditory systems and interpretation of these results. This includes Auditory Brainstem Response and Otoacoustic Emissions evaluations.
    • Reviewing test results with the patient and their family, which would include patient education, counseling and appropriate referrals.
  • Communication/Reports:
    • Written reports of audiologic test results and recommendations in the form of the audiogram and letter report to the UCH chart and referral source.
    • Narrative written reports of audiologic test results and recommendations and hearing aid recommendations.
    • Summary reports of ABR/OAE test results and recommendations to the UCH chart and referral source.
    • Discussion of audiologic test results and recommendations with OHNS attending and resident staff, attending and resident staff from other UCH clinics, such as Primary Care, Oncology, Psychiatry, Neurology or other appropriate referral source.
    • Discussion of audiologic test results and recommendations with the patient and patient's family which could include patient education, counseling and appropriate educational referrals.
    • Maintain written documentation of transactions regarding the patient, such as telephone conversations with patient or other professional involved in the patient's case.
    • Attend regular Audiology and Interdisciplinary team meetings.
    • Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies.
    • Schedule appointments in EPIC and inform (verbal or written) patient of special instructions, if needed, for the scheduled appointment.
  • Other:
    • Complete and submit charge forms for each patient seen, enter charges on daily census.
    • Participate in the UCH Studies when appropriate and provide follow-up recommendations to the study patient's family.
    • Maintain Audiology files with patient audiograms and hearing aid or other reports.
    • Participate in continuing education courses/seminars/workshops related to the practice of clinical audiology.
    • Provide patient education to the patient and to the patient's family.
    • Confirm appointments, review instructions, referrals for "managed care". Pull Clinic Charts.
    • Maintain Clinic appearance and follow all appropriate hospital patient care, regulatory, and administrative policies.
    • Provides presentations/in-services to colleagues or UCM residents once per year.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science/Arts(MS/MA) in Audiology
  • Doctor of Audiology (AuD or PhD) degree from an accredited educational body. Recent graduates from accredited audiology programs will be considered.
  • The candidate must have completed the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or ABA Certificate of Clinical Competence.
  • The candidate must hold or be able to obtain an Illinois Department of Professional Regulation License for Audiology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years’ experience as a clinical audiologist, with robust experience in adult vestibular evaluations

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
