Department Summary

The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier-One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. Located within HPS, the Department of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology (ASLP) provides the finest graduate professional education in both speech-language pathology and audiology while maintaining an excellent undergraduate degree. The program stresses excellence in teaching, research, and service by its faculty and students. As a component of the educational program, the department operates the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, which offers professional services to members of our campus community and the general public for the purpose of providing clinical training for students. The Center offers state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, and hearing disorders.

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive audiology services in the University clinic as well as providing services to school-aged children in contracted school systems in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate Degree in Audiology and four years of experience in Audiology clinical practice. License to practice in the State of Texas. Certificate of Clinical Competency (Audiology) or Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (Audiology).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knows and follows best practices of the discipline and stays current with changes in the field.


• Knows and follows protocols of the UNT Speech and Hearing Center.


• Ability to examine and assess clients with hearing, balance or related ear problems.


• Ability to fit and dispense hearing aids.


• Ability to diagnose and administer relief for various hearing related issues including vertigo.


• Ability to counsel patients and families on ways to communicate using various communication methods.


• Independently manages the provision of diagnostic, educational, and observational services to school districts.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Doctorate degree in Audiology, Audiologist licensure in the state of Texas, Personal vehicle for travel.


• Experience with graduate student supervision and training.


• At least 3 years of post-graduate experience.


• Pediatric audiological experience.

Job Duties:

• Actively participates in assisting the Department and its members to accomplish group and individual goals in a productive, cooperative and (respectful) collegial manner.


• Administers and interprets a variety of audiology tests and assessments to determine the range, type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech.


• Provides rehabilitation services and or hearing therapy.


• Provides counseling, guidance and teaching to others. May include students enrolled in audiology practicums, pupils, parents and teachers.


• Evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals.


• Assists with operations and coordination of clinical or educational programs. Also supervises graduate student clinicians.


• Coordinates, manages, and executes fitting/troubleshooting of hearing assistive technology for students with amplification in contracted school systems and maintains documentation of services for school records.


• Provides in-services on functionality of ALDs to teachers and staff.


• Communicates with special education and administrative personnel regarding auditory modifications and technology to meet goals of the IEP.


• Recommends, orders and maintains HAT inventory.
