University of Miami's Information Technology & Systems Department seeks a full-time Audio-Visual Technician in Coral Gables, FL. You will install, operate, and repair classroom AV systems, record meetings, and provide technical support for webinars and distance-learning classes.

You will maintain equipment inventories, create user guides, and train faculty and staff on AV controls, ensuring reliable operation for Executive Education and other programs.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in relevant field is required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience is required.
• Valid unrestricted Florida Driver's License is required for travel to satellite facilities.
• Experience setting up and troubleshooting core AV hardware (displays, projectors, wireless mics, mixers, switchers).
• Proficiency with unified communications and hybrid classroom tools (Zoom Rooms, Teams Rooms).
• Ability to work non-standard hours including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty and speakers with AV devices and presentation software.

The University of Miami Information Technology & Systems Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Audio-Visual Technician to work in Coral Gables, Florida.

The Audio Visual Technician provides audio-visual services and systems support in classrooms and other learning spaces. Additionally, the incumbent sets up, operates, maintains, and repairs equipment used to enhance live events, such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting, and sound mixing equipment. This employee also records meetings and presentations, operates spotlights, adjusts amplifiers, coordinates graphics used in displays, and provides technical support for teleconferences, webinars, and distance-learning classes. The Audio Visual Technician edits, copies, and stores videotapes and DVDs, tracks inventory of equipment, and orders supplies.

Core Responsibilities:

• Assists faculty and speakers with the use of audio-visual devices and presentation software.
• Ensures that equipment used for presentations is correctly configured and operating properly.
• Arranges for and supervises both periodic maintenance and repairs of all audio-visual equipment.
• Records lectures and guest presentations.
• Conducts basic video editing and posts recordings to University websites.
• Provides group and individual training related to the use of University audio-visual equipment.
• Documents and maintains procedures related to the use of all audio-visual equipment.
• Keeps all audio-visual equipment areas neat and well ordered.
• Ensures that audio-visual equipment is kept current and meets the changing audio-visual needs of the University.
• Keeps abreast of current audio-visual technologies and practices.
• Works with IT staff to maintain a listing of all University audio-visual equipment.
• Coordinates with IT staff to ensure that proper levels of audio-visual consumables are kept in stock.
• Recommends improvements to classrooms and other learning spaces.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

• Install, configure, test, and troubleshoot AV equipment across campus classrooms to ensure seamless instructional technology operations.
• Provide live technical support, audio mixing, projection setup, and video recording for university events, guest lectures, and special functions.
• Assist student organizations and campus clubs with equipment setup, operation training, and technical troubleshooting for meetings, performances, and campus activities.
• Deliver dedicated weekend and evening AV support for Executive Education, Executive MBA, and professional degree programs, ensuring white-glove service for high-profile stakeholders.
• Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and inventory checks on classroom and event technology to minimize downtime and quickly identify repair needs.
• Create user-friendly guides and deliver hands‑on technical orientation for faculty, staff, and student leaders on classroom and event AV controls.
• Assist Sr. Audio Visual Technician as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate degree in relevant field required
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
• Valid unrestricted Florida Driver's License is required for travel to satellite facilities.
• Demonstrated expertise in setting up, routing, and troubleshooting core AV hardware, including digital displays, laser projectors, wireless microphones, audio mixing consoles, switcher systems (e.g., \"Extron, Crestron\"), and signal distribution (HDMI, SDI, Dante).
• Proven proficiency with unified communications and hybrid classroom tools (e.g., \"Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms\", webcams, tracking cameras, and boundary microphones).
• Ability to regularly work non-standard hours, including required evenings and weekends to support Executive MBA, Executive Education, and evening/weekend academic schedules.
• Physical ability to lift, transport, and position heavy technical equipment (up to 50 lbs), climb ladders, reach overhead, and work on feet for extended periods during events.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills with a customer-centric mindset, capable of providing calm, rapid technical support to faculty, executive students, and guest speakers under pressure.
• Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
