Job summary

IES is seeking an experienced commercial Audio/Visual installer in San Diego, CA. The candidate will work on AV systems, read one-line drawings, and ensure installation standards align with InfoComm and manufacturer specs. Strong customer interfacing and professional presentation are required.

Responsibilities include cable pulling, rack building, projector and display installs, and system troubleshooting. Crestron programming and familiarity with video conferencing tools are preferred;

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Formal electronics education preferred.
  • Excellent experience with audiovisual installation techniques.
  • Crestron programming experience required.
  • Experience with video conferencing systems preferred (Polycom, Tandberg, Cisco, LifeSize).
  • Strong ability to read schematic diagrams and drawings.
  • Residential AV experience and smart home design exposure.

  • Hang projector screens and install structures to hang AV equipment.
  • Install speakers, displays, cameras, microphones and connectors.
  • Terminate shielded cables and perform terminations per diagrams.
  • Conduct expert-level troubleshooting of AV systems.
  • Structured cabling: pulling, terminating, testing audio/video cables.
  • Work with projectors, video conferencing, and control systems.
  • Rack build-out and craftsmanship; provide process improvements.

Job description

Job Summary

The qualified candidate will be well rounded and experienced in commercial Audio/Visual systems. This individual should have strong industry knowledge of best practices and installation standards consistent with InfoComm and manufacturer specifications. They must be proficient in reading and interpreting AV signal one‑line drawings, understand system function, determine cable pull schedules, and maintain a professional appearance while interfacing with clients. Knowledge of commercial construction standards is strongly preferred. The candidate is required to pass company qualifications to drive a company vehicle.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • AV cable pulling and rack building/pre‑wire
  • Hang projector screens and build structures to hang AV equipment consistent with industry safety standards
  • Install speakers, flat panel displays, cameras, ceiling and tabletop microphones, and solder AV connectors
  • Terminate shielded category cable
  • Conduct expert‑level troubleshooting of AV systems
  • Perform structured cabling, including pulling, terminating, and testing all audio/video cables
  • Perform terminations in accordance with system diagrams
  • Work with projectors, video conferencing systems, screen displays, and computer controls
  • Conduct rack build‑out and craftsmanship
  • Provide feedback to determine improvements needed in the installation process
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to see and distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Must travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Creative thinking and professional interaction with employees, customers, and colleagues.
  • PC & networking proficient; must already know your way around a computer.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Formal education in electronics or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent experience with audiovisual or other electro‑mechanical installation techniques.
  • Crestron programming experience required.
  • Experience with video conferencing (Polycom, Tandberg, Cisco, or LifeSize preferred).
  • Good experience in the AV residential field – home theaters, structured wiring, and smart house designs.
  • Ability to read schematic diagrams and drawings.
  • Experience with Crestron Digital Media, Digital Video, Biamp, Video Conferencing, Audio Conferencing, Polycom, AMX, Clearone.
Salary

Minimum USD $23.00 per year. Max USD $34.00 per year.
