Job summary

CTI in Reston, VA is seeking an experienced AV Systems Designer to design complete commercial AV systems for conference rooms, boardrooms, training spaces, and enterprise collaboration setups. You’ll translate client ideas into system drawings and documentation that help teams move faster and install with fewer surprises.

You’ll develop AV signal flow diagrams and system drawings using Visio and CAD, review scope and kickoff information, select equipment, and define architecture that fits CTI

CTI builds and delivers commercial audio visual solutions that are coordinated, build-ready, and aligned to standards. What you’ll do

Design complete commercial AV systems for environments like conference rooms, boardrooms, training spaces, and enterprise collaboration setups. Turn client ideas into system drawings and documentation that help teams move faster and install with fewer surprises.

• Develop AV signal flow diagrams, system drawings, and project documentation using Visio and/or CAD
• Review scope, proposals, and kickoff information, then ask the right technical questions to clarify requirements and assumptions
• Select AV equipment and define system architecture that fits CTI standards, real-world constraints, and budget
• Coordinate with Sales, Project Managers, BIM/CAD, architects, consultants, IT, and electrical stakeholders to keep designs coordinated and buildable
• Provide technical direction and quality assurance on drawings so field teams can trust what’s on the page
• Support execution with answers and updates, including field/programming questions, procurement clarifications or substitutions, and design revisions driven by site conditions or product availability

What you bring

• 3+ years designing commercial AV systems (not entry-level, and bringing strong signal flow skills)
• Strong experience creating AV documentation and drawings, including signal flow and system drawings using Visio and/or CAD
• Comfort selecting equipment and building solutions that are practical, buildable, and aligned to standards and budget
• Communication skills that make cross-team coordination easy, including translating technical details for different audiences
• A collaborative, supportive work style: independent when needed, and curious enough to ask great questions
• Associate degree preferred (not required). Attitude and aptitude matter
