Job description

Our client is a premier commercial technology integrator based in the Greenville, SC area, in business for decades and known for “doing it right the first time.” Their teams install and commission AV systems for boardrooms, conference and presentation spaces, Microsoft Teams rooms, and theater/auditorium environments. They are seeking a Level 3 AV Installation Technician who is a true craftsman, someone with the advanced technical maturity to arrive at a complex commercial construction or retrofit site and independently drive the project to completion, and who leaves every room in a state where a non-technical end user can walk in and run a meeting or presentation without help.

Position Overview

This is a high-level, dedicated Audio-Visual installation role requiring advanced proficiency in building out professional AV systems. You will be responsible for the physical deployment, structural mounting, precision wiring, and initial configuration of complex systems including Professional Sound, Video Walls, Digital Signage, Microsoft Teams/UC rooms, BYOD presentation setups, and Automation Control. This position is for an expert-caliber installer who can manage a project vehicle, lead junior installers, and execute engineered line drawings flawlessly with zero supervision.

Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay: $28–$35/hour, based on verified experience and certifications (Level 3 range).
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, based out of the Greenville, SC office/shop with daily dispatch to client sites.
  • Employment Type: Direct hire.
Key Responsibilities
  • Audio-Visual Infrastructure: Lead the structural mounting, rigging, and physical setup of projectors, motorized screens, displays, structural Video Walls, and performance loudspeakers.
  • Control & DSP Rack Builds: Build, wire, and dress equipment racks to neat, professional standards; load configurations and firmware for control processors and DSPs (Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS).
  • Signal & Control Wiring: Pull, terminate, and test structural low-voltage cabling including Category lines (Cat6/6A), fiber optics, shielded audio, and high-bandwidth video lines.
  • Network & Device Setup: Deploy and address networked AV field devices, validating physical connections, PoE power delivery, and basic IP addressing via laptop tools.
  • Teams & Collaboration Rooms: Install and configure Microsoft Teams Rooms/UC engines and BYOD presentation switching; test touch panel controls (power on, Meet vs. Present) and confirm all peripherals function correctly.
  • Audio Testing & Handover: Test in-room audio for full room coverage and eliminate echo/feedback issues before sign-off; conduct final walkthroughs so end users can operate the system without assistance.
  • Site Management & Leadership: Read and interpret architectural blueprints, structural details, and AV line drawings; manage on-site inventory, interface with general contractors, and mentor Level 1 and 2 installers.
  • System Commissioning: Conduct initial signal flow testing, gain staging, and hardware verification to ensure the system is ready for final programming and handover.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experience: 5 - 8 years of verifiable experience in commercial AV installation, rack building, rough-in, and trim-out.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert mastery of professional power tools, structural rigging/mounting hardware, multi-meters, tone/probe kits, and advanced network testing equipment (Fluke/OTDR).
  • Code Knowledge: Deep understanding of TIA/EIA standards, InfoComm/AVIXA installation standards, and NEC codes regarding low-voltage signal cabling.
  • Compliance: Must pass a pre-employment background screening and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean record.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate degree or technical trade certificate preferred).
