Job summary

Los Angeles LGBT Center seeks an Audio Technician to provide audio support for special events, performances, and rental needs at various Center locations.

Responsibilities include setup, operation, troubleshooting, and mixing of audio systems, with load in/out under direction and collaboration with the Technical Events Manager. Applicants should have 3+ years of live sound experience and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Solid background in live, special, and theatrical events for various spaces.
• Minimum three years of experience running audio boards for live events.
• Experience operating audio boards and equipment (mics, stands, speakers, cables, etc.).
• Ensuring safe operating sound levels.
• Knowledge of or experience with LGBTQ community and related issues.
• Passion for the Center’s work and its mission to support LGBTQ people.

• Load, unload, pack, and transport gear as needed.
• Follow safety procedures for equipment and access.

JOB SUMMARY: As scheduled and under the general supervision of the Director of Event Operations [1] , provide audio support for special events, performances, and routine rental situations at various Center locations. [2]

Event Operations

• Prepare and operate audio equipment for events including theatrical performances, concerts, screenings, memorials, receptions, etc.
• Set up and breakdown of audio equipment.
• Load in/out audio equipment using a sound plot, under Technical Manager [3] direction, or implement your own ideas
• Troubleshoot and resolve audio issues before, during, and after events.
• Mix shows and events independently or with stage manager cueing.
• Testing audio equipment for volume, tone, and clarity.
• Provide post-event feedback regarding event execution, equipment performance, and facility use.

Other Duties

• Evaluate audio equipment for repair and maintenance.
• Load, unload, pack, and assist with transporting gear to and from various locations.
• Follow safety and security procedures for equipment, access, and overall event operations.
• Participate in staff meetings, special events, and related activities as requested.
• Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Solid background in live, special, and theatrical events for a variety of spaces including small (50 seats), medium (200) houses, and outdoor and/or alternative spaces.
• Minimum three years of experience running audio boards for live events.
• Working knowledge of and the ability to operate audio boards and various audio equipment such as microphones, stands, speakers, cables, etc.
• Ensuring safe operating sound levels
• Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues relevant to LGBTQ people
• A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and an ability to interact appropriately with visiting as well as on-site technicians, theatrical producers, directors, designers, artists, and clients.
• Computer and internet literacy and prior experience with complex computer software
• Ability to implement event details from written work orders and to work effectively with minimal supervision, as a team, as a team leader, and alone
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to mix multiple live audio inputs.
• Experience with Midas, Allen & Heath, and Yamaha audio boards.
• Experience with QLab, Recording Software, & Spotify
• Bilingual Spanish/English.
