Job summary

USAGM's Office of Cuba Broadcasting in Doral, FL seeks a skilled Audio Technician to support live and recorded broadcasts from a professional on-site studio. As a personal services contractor for VOA News, you will operate high-quality audio gear and ensure pristine sound for on-air programs.

You will set up microphones, monitor levels, troubleshoot equipment, and coordinate with producers and talent to meet production deadlines. This role emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, and timely delivery.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate audio consoles, mixers, microphones, intercom systems, and related broadcast equipment during live and recorded productions.
  • Monitor and adjust audio levels to ensure clear, balanced sound for broadcasts.
  • Set up, test, and troubleshoot microphones, audio feeds, recording equipment, and signal routing systems.
  • Coordinate with producers, directors, technical staff, and on-air talent to support production requirements.
  • Perform audio checks and equipment testing before broadcasts, recordings, and remote productions.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing audio signals to identify and correct issues.
  • Record, edit, and manage audio content for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Assist with maintenance, inventory, and repair coordination of audio equipment.
  • Apply sound production techniques to program elements and integrate them into a complete production.
  • Perform studio control room operations in production and broadcast of service programs, including audio control.
  • Log and conduct data entry for VOA’s digital asset management system.
  • Stay abreast of new technology and log feeds for assets.
  • Operate computers and complete tasks accurately and independently prior to deadlines.
  • Function as an effective team member and may lead a team as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Operate audio consoles, mixers, microphones, intercom systems, and related broadcast audio equipment during live and recorded productions.
  • Monitor and adjust audio levels to ensure clear, balanced, and high-quality sound for broadcasts.
  • Set up, test, and troubleshoot microphones, audio feeds, recording equipment, and signal routing systems.
  • Coordinate with producers, directors, technical staff, and on-air talent to support production requirements.
  • Perform audio checks and equipment testing before broadcasts, recordings, and remote productions.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing audio signals to identify and correct technical issues.
  • Record, edit, and manage audio content as required for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and repair coordination of audio equipment and systems.
  • Applies sound production techniques to program elements and integrates them into a complete, professional production.
  • Performs technical functions related to studio control room operation in the production and broadcast of service programs, including audio control.
  • Logs and conducts data entry and other functions connected with VOA’s digital asset management system.
  • Stays abreast of the latest/new technology.
  • Researches, gathers, and logs video and audio feeds.
  • Operates computers.
  • Completes tasks accurately and independently prior to deadline, in accordance with editorial and production priorities.
  • Functions as an effective member of a team.
  • May serve as a team leader, assigning work and coaching team members and reporting to management on their performance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
