Job summary

Twoconnect is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead daily finance operations for a growing Australian environmental consultancy. This is a hands-on role covering financial reporting, payroll, A/P, A/R, project billing and month-end close.

You will work with Directors and external accountants to ensure accuracy, support decision-making with reporting and analysis, and ensure compliance and timely payroll.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting or Finance with strong financial controls.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, especially Australian finance functions.
• Experience with payroll, A/P, A/R, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
• Familiarity with Australian payroll legislation and STP is a plus.
• Experience supporting multiple entities and intercompany transactions.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Oversee project billing, client invoicing, and debtor management.
• Process supplier payments and expense claims; maintain records.
• Coordinate month-end close, journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Prepare management reports and budget variance analysis.
• Assist cash flow forecasting and budgeting activities.

Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day finance operations for a growing Australian environmental consultancy. This is a hands‑on role responsible for financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, project billing, reconciliations, compliance, and month‑end activities.

Working closely with the Directors and external accountants, you will play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting business decisions through reporting and analysis, and ensuring payroll and compliance obligations are met.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations

• Manage end-to-end accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Oversee project billing, client invoicing, monthly statements, and debtor management.
• Process supplier payments, expense claims, and maintain accurate financial records.
• Manage purchase orders and monitor outstanding commitments.

Payroll & Compliance

• Process fortnightly Australian payroll, including leave management, superannuation, STP, PAYG, payroll tax, and workers’ compensation requirements.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Awards, classifications, pay rates, allowances, and employee entitlements.
• Complete payroll reconciliations and support year‑end payroll processes.
• Reconciliations & Reporting
• Perform bank, credit card, payroll, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Coordinate month‑end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
• Prepare management reports, departmental P&Ls, project profitability reports, and budget variance analysis.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting and budgeting activities.

Finance Support & Process Improvement

• Support tax and compliance reporting in partnership with external accountants.
• Assist with year‑end reporting, audit preparation, and R&D claim documentation.
• Provide finance support across related entities where required.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and support the coordination of routine finance activities.

About You

• Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience, including strong exposure to Australian finance functions.
• Demonstrated experience across payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month‑end reporting.
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, STP, superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, and compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting multiple entities, intercompany transactions and loan reconciliations.
• Experience preparing management reports and working alongside external accountants.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with MYOB, Xero, or similar accounting platforms.
• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience using MYOB and Monday.com.
• Background within a consultancy, professional services, or project-based environment.
• Experience supporting multiple entities and intercompany transactions.
• CPA or CA qualification, or currently working towards completion.
