Job summary

Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) seeks an experienced Member Services Attorney to provide legal assistance to reentering members, focusing on housing rights, family law, expungement, and employment barriers. The role partners with staff, life coaches, and volunteers to deliver assessments, consultations, and referrals as part of ARC’s broader reentry services.

Since 2013, the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) has worked to end mass incarceration. To ensure our communities are safe, healthy, and whole, ARC empowers formerly and currently incarcerated people to thrive by providing a support network, comprehensive reentry services, and opportunities to advocate for policy change. Through our grassroots policy advocacy, we are dedicated to transforming the criminal justice system so that it is more just and equitable for all people. We are seeking an experienced, talented and enthusiastic attorney to join our Los Angeles team. ARC’s Member Services department connects members to coordinated, member-centered support that promotes stability, healing, self-determination, and long-term success. Legal services are a core part of that support, helping members with legal assistance across expungements and record relief, housing rights, family law referrals, fair chance hiring, and navigation of parole, probation, and restitution requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Member Services Attorney will provide legal assistance to ARC members who are reentering society as free individuals, helping them navigate housing rights, family law matters, fair chance hiring and employment barriers, record expungement, and the requirements of parole, probation, and restitution. This position reports to the Director of Member Services and requires working collaboratively with ARC staff, life coaches, and volunteers to deliver a broad range of legal assistance, including, but not limited to, legal assessments, consultations, expungement petition preparation, and referrals for issues outside ARC's direct scope of service. Beyond individual case assistance, the Member Services Attorney will help build a broader legal access ecosystem embedded in ARC's reentry services — one grounded in prevention and empowerment through knowledge, not just crisis response. This includes supporting legal clinics and legal education workshops that give members a foundational understanding of the legal systems they encounter, from housing and employment to family and criminal court. This position will also require working collaboratively with community-based organizations and agencies to provide holistic services and referrals for ARC members.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

• Build relationships with and counsel members on various legal issues.
• Conduct legal assessments and consultations to identify each member's specific legal needs and determine the appropriate path forward, whether direct representation, petition preparation, or referral to an outside legal or community partner.
• Work collaboratively with volunteers, life coaches, and interns in a clinic setting.
• Represent members in hearings and other post-conviction matters, advocating on their behalf throughout the legal process.
• Remove legal barriers to employment and housing, including expungement of criminal records, sentence reduction, citation defense, and other post-conviction/criminal record-related work that may prevent members from securing jobs, housing, or licensure.
• Create trainings for volunteers, interns, and staff in pre-clinic and post-clinic settings.
• Supervise volunteers and law students/interns in clinic settings.
• Coordinate legal clinic logistics, including scheduling, member intake, walk-in consultations, and coordination with community partners.
• Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, county agencies, and legal partners to provide holistic services and ensure members are connected to appropriate outside resources when an issue falls outside ARC's direct scope of service.

REQUIREMENTS

Must have reliable transportation and current California Driver’s License with valid registration and insurance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; drive; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch (The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds). SALARY/BENEFITS

• Salary $90K-$105K DOE
• 401k with employer match
• ARC pays 100% of a medical base plan; 50% for dependents.
