Job description

Senior Attorney - Renewable Energy, Environmental, and Real Estate

Michaud Law Group, LLC, a busy Connecticut-based law firm active throughout the northeast seeks an experienced renewable energy, environmental, and real estate/transactional attorney (5-7+ years of experience), with admission to practice law and experience in New York, who can help advance sustainable energy initiatives by advising clients (including project developers and investors) on projects where energy development, environmental compliance, and real estate transactions intersect.

Core Practice Areas:
  • Energy Law: Advise on clean and renewable energy projects (solar, battery energy storage, fuel cells, etc.) and energy infrastructure. This includes transactional work such as obtaining site control, negotiating easements, and ensuring regulatory and utility compliance.
  • Environmental & Land Use Law: Advise on environmental compliance, permitting, land use, and zoning regulations. Ensure that projects meet state and local environmental standards.
  • Real Estate / Transactional Law: Manage real estate contracts, land use agreements, and other property transactions, including drafting and negotiating lease & purchase option agreements, letters of intent, and other related documents. Review title matters and evaluate impacts on utility easements and the project.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Skills: Join a team where your energy, environmental, and real estate expertise will directly influence innovative renewable energy projects, making your role meaningful and engaging.
Skills and Experience:
  • Deep knowledge of state energy regulations and environmental statutes as well as permitting processes to ensure compliance and project success.
  • Proficiency in transactional drafting (deeds, leases, contracts, etc.) and negotiating complex cross-sector deals, including electric utility easements.
  • Ability to navigate land use and zoning processes, often applying creative solutions to address community and agency concerns, often in partnership with non-attorney environmental and energy consulting specialists.
  • Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills
  • General experience with clean and renewable energy projects including solar and battery energy storage systems.

Office Locations: Middletown, CT. This position is mostly remote.

Required State Bar Admission: New York

Additional State Bar Admissions: New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania would be helpful but not required. The willingness to become admitted to practice in other states would be helpful.
