Job summary

US Department of Agriculture, Office of the General Counsel in the United States seeks attorneys (GS-11 to GS-14) with strong research, writing, and litigation skills to support Forest Service and related agencies on natural resources matters. Applicants must be ABA-accredited JD or equivalent and current bar members.

Ideal candidates have experience in environmental law or land-use matters, and the ability to work collaboratively across agencies to provide timely legal advice and litigation

Qualifications

Successful completion of ABA-accredited law school with JD/LLB (transcript required) and bar admission.
Strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
Experience in federal natural resources or environmental law is a plus.

Responsibilities

Provides authoritative legal advice and litigation support on complex matters involving Forest Service lands and related authorities.
Drafts and reviews documents involving real estate acquisitions and landownership on National Forest System lands.
Reviews Forest Service decisions affecting mineral operations and environmental compliance obligations.
Collaborates with OGC and agency personnel nationwide to address complex legal issues.
