Job summary

The U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Inspector General (OIG) seeks a highly qualified Attorney-Advisor to provide expert legal counsel on complex and sensitive matters.

The incumbent reports to a Supervisory Attorney-Advisor and supports OIG programs by delivering timely advice, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and advancing the OIG's mission to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.

Qualifications

  • J.D., LL.B., or LL.M from ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing (any jurisdiction).
  • At least 2 years of post-professional law degree experience.
  • Professional experience equivalent to GS-12 level with 1 year at GS-13 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal counsel on complex and sensitive matters.
  • Support OIG programs by delivering timely advice and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Advance the OIG's mission to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.

Job description

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Office of Inspector General (OIG), is seeking a highly qualified Attorney-Advisor to provide expert legal counsel on complex and sensitive matters. The incumbent will report to a Supervisory Attorney- Advisor and support OIG programs by delivering timely advice, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and advancing the OIG's mission to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.


In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate sufficient specialized experience to perform the duties of this position. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities, as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to submit a thorough resume that directly relates to this position. Applicants must possess a J.D., LL.B., and/or LL.M professional law degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any jurisdiction) and possess at least 2 years of post-professional law degree experience. Specialized Experience Statement: GS-13: One year of professional legal experience after admission to the bar, one year of which provided specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a non-federal service position.


Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:



  • Researching, analyzing, and explaining complex statutory, regulatory, and administrative law issues;

  • Developing strategies and arguments in preparation for presentation of cases in administrative proceedings;

  • Writing clear, concise, persuasive legal documents for various audiences;

  • Making effective oral presentations/arguments before administrative third parties;

  • Apply statutes and regulations to recommend guidance and/or course of action regarding legal matters.
