Bar Membership: Applicants must be a current member of a bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

FOR GS-13 Applicants:All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants that apply for this position must meet the following requirements to be eligible for further consideration: Law Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with a J.D. or LL.M. Bar Membership: Applicants must be a current member of a bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Experience: Applicants must have at least two years of specialized experience with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service, which provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. The specialized experience must have been gained after admission to the bar. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience providing a range of advice on various federal practice legal disciplines, including those typically practiced in a general law office, such as fiscal/procurements laws, ethics, federal grants or assistance, administrative law, personnel laws, criminal law/procedures, and privacy.
  • Some experience in planning and conducting administrative or whistleblower investigations.
  • Experience personally handling sensitive or highly visible/high level official matters.
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and persuasive memoranda, advisory opinions, and other legal documents.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.

Applicants that apply for this position must meet the following requirements to be eligible for further consideration: Law Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with a J.D. or LL.M. Bar Membership: Applicants must be a current member of a bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Experience: Applicants must have at least three years of specialized experience with at least one year equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal Service, which provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position. The specialized experience must have been gained after admission to the bar. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience providing a broad range of advice on various federal practice legal disciplines, including those typically practiced in a general law office, such as fiscal/procurements laws, ethics,federal grants or assistance, administrative law, personnel laws, criminal law/procedures, and privacy.
  • Experience in planning, developing and conducting administrative or whistleblower investigations.
  • Experience personally handling sensitive or highly visible/high level official matters.
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and persuasive memoranda, advisory opinions, and other legal documents.

The specialized experience must have been gained after admission to the bar. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of civil, criminal, and administrative law.
  • Skills in partnering, influencing, and negotiating.
  • Skills in successfully building relationships with customers, peers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide legal counseling, legal written and verbal opinions/ memoranda to customers.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communication.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-15 position.
