Job description

The Office of General Counsel (OGC) provides legal services and guidance to all components of the USMS in matters that arise in the conduct of USMS missions pursuant to 28 USC § 566, and as delegated by the Attorney General. OGC provides legal support to the USMS by analyzing the legal implications involved in operational and policy decisions, advising and training USMS personnel on criminal, civil, and regulatory legal issues, reviewing pertinent proposed legislation, regulations, and legal process affecting USMS operations, and representing USMS in civil and administrative litigation. Within the OGC is the USMS Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Unit, which is comprised of information disclosure attorneys, Government Information Specialists (GIS’s) and administrative professionals, and the Body Worn Camera (BWC) Group, which is comprised of contract personnel responsible for the processing USMS BWC footage for external dissemination.

Job Description

The Office of General Counsel is seeking an experienced Attorney Advisor, GS-14 and GS-15, FPL GS-15, to provide legal services with a concentration in labor and employment law for a federal law enforcement agency with a special emphasis on administrative litigation before the EEOC, MSPB, FLRA and arbitrators, as well as litigation support in agency related cases to Assistant U.S. Attorneys and other Department of Justice counsel who represent the agency and its personnel in all areas of federal litigation. Attorney Advisors in the Office of General Counsel, U.S. Marshals Service, also provide legal advice and assistance in other areas of law including but not limited to civil and criminal procedure, federal contracts, asset forfeiture and ethics.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

The selectee will be expected to report in-person to the office.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 5 years post-J.D. experience, including substantial experience in handling administrative labor and employment litigation matters, before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Merit Systems Protection Board, Federal Labor Relations Authority and arbitrations through hearing and appeals, as well as in federal court.

$143,913.00 to $197,200.00 Per Year
