The Alternate Public Defender Middle Georgia Regional Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Public Defender 3 for the Macon area. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position, including preparing cases for trial, zealously advocating and defending their client, seeking and negotiating plea depositions, and entering pleas in the felony cases in Superior Court. Candidates must be experienced criminal defense attorneys willing to travel in the Macon area. This role requires strong advocacy skills, sound legal judgment, and a commitment to public defense. Applicants must be a current member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
The Assistant Public Defender 3 provides competent, diligent, and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients. This position functions as an experienced attorney, handling serious, high-profile, and significant felony cases. The Assistant Public Defender 3 will conduct case investigations and develop defense strategies, negotiate plea agreements and represent clients during plea proceedings, draft and file motions, pleadings, and other legal documents, and maintain effective communication with clients, and courts. Performs other related duties as required.
The selected candidate must meet all qualifications specific to the job responsibilities.
Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and two (2) years of relevant legal -experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
