The Iowa Office of Civil Rights is seeking a Civil Rights Attorney to enforce the Iowa Civil Rights Act. As a Civil Rights Attorney, you will play a vital role in enforcing the Iowa Civil Rights Act. Your legal expertise will be used to evaluate discrimination complaints, analyze facts, and apply legal standards to recommend further action. This role involves extensive legal writing and collaboration with legal professionals within the Agency.
Assist in preparing drafts, letters, memoranda, pleadings, motions, and interrogatories for senior attorneys.
Facilitate alternative dispute resolution between parties.
Research laws, policies, and regulations from various jurisdictions.
Support Senior Attorneys and the Attorney General in litigation.
Review and investigate complaints of discrimination, providing detailed reports and legal analysis.
Interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses; analyze evidence and applicable laws to determine probable cause.
Provide clear, thorough written evaluations of law and evidence.
Enter data and complete reports in the web-based database.
Provide training to the public.
Work is performed under supervision; travel, including overnight stays, may be required.

Qualifications:
Possession of a law degree from an accredited institution. Graduation from an accredited law school is required. Employees may need to be admitted to the Iowa State Bar within a specified period after hire, as determined by the appointing authority.
