Job summary

The Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington is seeking an attorney to provide legal advice and representation in immigration matters. The attorney will support the Director of Immigration Legal Services, supervise interns, and collaborate with social work case managers to connect clients with holistic services.

Requirements include a Juris Doctor, admission in any state or DC (Maryland bar preferred), one year of immigration law, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bilingual (English and Spanish). Verbal and written communication skills.
• Public speaking skills in English and Spanish.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally at all levels and across diverse cultures.

Responsibilities

• Interview individuals seeking legal assistance and advise the client regarding possible options through proper interpretation of current laws.
• Refer individuals to agency case managers as appropriate and needed for the provision of holistic services.
• Provide ongoing legal representation to the client commencing with the initial intake interview, drafting of documents, correspondence and client applications/petitions.
• Conduct outreach activities in the community related to legal issues.
• Assist with the supervision of assigned interns/volunteers.
• Ensure the timely submission of all external and internal program reports.
• Serve as liaison between the program and community partners.
• Complete Continuing Legal Education, in addition to any and all licensing requirements for the Jurisdiction where the attorney is licensed to practice.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Attorney provides legal advice and representation in accord with the best practice of the profession. The position assists the Director of Immigration Legal Services with all internal and external reporting and with the supervision of assigned interns/volunteers. Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• Law Degree (J.D.).
• Admission to the practice of law in any state and/or Washington, DC (Maryland Bar Preferred).
• One-year experience in immigration law.
• Driving is required. Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Salary Description

$75,500 to $81,806 per year
