Job description

If you're reading this, you're probably a good lawyer who's tired of being treated like a case-closing machine.

Maybe you're at a firm where you don't have real ownership over your cases, or you're on the defense side wondering what it would feel like to fight for people instead of insurance companies.

Maybe you just want to do serious, complex litigation work without sacrificing your sanity - or your growth as a lawyer.

Maybe you are tired of carrying an overwhelming caseload and want to spend your time doing the kind of thoughtful, creative, strategic litigation that drew you to the law in the first place.

Maybe you have been looking for a place where someone will actually invest in your development as a lawyer.

If that sounds like you, Malorie Peacock wants to talk to you. Malorie is the managing attorney here at Cowen Rodriguez Peacock and she is looking for an attorney to join her team.

Malorie works on high-value, complex trucking case docket. Right now, Malorie maintains a docket of about 30 cases at a time - the kind with real medicine, real experts, real exposure, and real stakes for the families involved. This is not a high-volume personal injury job.

Since Malorie's responsibilities as managing partner have grown, she needs an attorney with 5-10 years of experience who's ready to take real ownership of cases like these, not just assist on them.

This isn't a "learn on the job while I hover over your shoulder" role, and it isn't a "here's 100 files, good luck" role either. She is looking for someone who already knows their way around litigation - plaintiff or defense side PI experience both count - and who is ready to work on a docket while still having a partner who's genuinely invested in their development. You will work on a small, carefully managed docket of significant cases where the quality of the work matters. You will be involved in the strategy, the people, and the details that make complex litigation successful.

What You'd Be Doing
  • Working on a manageable caseload of complex trucking litigation, from intake through pretrial;
  • Taking an active role in discovery and independently handling significant discovery issues;
  • Taking and defending depositions, including working toward increasingly sophisticated expert and corporate representative depositions;
  • Assisting with motion practice and arguing motions and other matters in court;
  • Preparing cases for trial and participating meaningfully in trial preparation;
  • Serving as a second or third chair on trials, with the opportunity to grow into first-chair responsibilities;
  • Working directly with Malorie on strategy for our highest-value, most complex matters;
  • Building relationships with clients, experts, and co-counsel;

This position is designed to provide meaningful support on an existing trucking docket while creating a path for the right person to assume increasing responsibility. Over time, we hope you will take on a larger role in the docket, serve as first chair on some cases, and ultimately develop and manage your own docket of significant cases. In other words, we are looking for someone to grow with us - not simply someone to help us get through our workload.

What Malorie and CRP Bring to the Table

Malorie cares about mentorship - not as a talking point, but as something she actually spends time doing. You won't be left to figure things out alone; she is looking for someone who wants to work and develop together.

We also put our money where our mouth is when it comes to attorney development:

  • We cover the full cost of your CLE requirements;
  • We send our attorneys to the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys annual convention - one of the best resources in the country for trucking litigation - every year;
  • You’ll have direct access to a managing partner.

We have an open-door, collaborative environment where attorneys work together to solve problems. We regularly bring attorneys together to brainstorm difficult cases and develop strategy. We have weekly attorney training sessions and weekly case brainstorming sessions, where lawyers from across the firm can offer ideas and strategic input on cases they may not even be handling themselves. We believe great litigation is rarely the product of one person working alone.

Who We are Looking For
  • 5-10 years of personal injury litigation experience (plaintiff or defense side);
  • Comfortable running your own cases with real autonomy;
  • Strong writing and courtroom instincts - someone to represent this firm well;
  • Genuinely interested in trucking litigation, or eager to specialize in it;
  • Someone who wants to grow with a firm, not just clock in at one.

You do not need to have every answer. In fact, we believe some of the best lawyers are the ones who know when to ask a question, invite another perspective, or rethink their approach. What matters most to us is that you are smart, curious, hardworking, humble, and committed to excellence.

Where You'd Work

This is an in-office role based in San Antonio. Malorie believes strongly in the kind of mentorship, case strategy, creativity and collaboration that happens best in person - especially with a docket this complex.

What we offer
  • Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience.
  • Health insurance.
  • 401(k).
  • Paid time off.
  • CLE and professional development expenses covered.
  • Regular attorney training and professional development.
  • Meaningful mentorship and direct access to experienced trial lawyers.
  • The opportunity to work on a focused docket of complex, high-value trucking and catastrophic injury cases.
Lets Talk

If this sounds like the kind of firm and the kind of role you've been looking for, Malorie wants to hear from you. Whatever brings you here, if you are an experienced personal injury lawyer who wants to work on challenging cases, learn from excellent lawyers, contribute your own ideas, and grow into a significant role in a plaintiff-side trucking practice, we would love to meet you.
