Job summary

Hennessy & Roach, P.C. is seeking an attorney to defend workers’ compensation and general liability matters in Indiana, based in our Indianapolis, IN office. The role involves gathering medical evidence, taking depositions, drafting pleadings, and representing clients at hearings and settlements.

The ideal candidate has a J.D. and Indiana bar admission with a proven track record in workers’ compensation or defense work, plus strong knowledge of laws, Word/Outlook, and Perfect Law software.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active Indiana bar admission; or admission in another Midwest state is a plus.
• Proven track record in workers’ compensation or general liability defense or litigation.

Responsibilities

• Gather and review medical evidence and records.
• Take depositions of claimants, physicians, experts, and others.
• Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Litigate workers' compensation cases before an administrative law judge.
• Represent employer or insurer at hearings, trials, and mediations.
• Assist with investigation of accidents and problem areas.
• Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports to management.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of employer/insurer.
• Other related duties as assigned

Successful law firm seeks an attorney with experience defending workers' compensation and general liability cases in Indiana to join our Indianapolis, IN office.

Essential Job Functions:

• Gathering and reviewing medical evidence and medical records.
• Taking depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
• Conducting discovery and performing legal research.
• Drafting pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Litigating workers' compensation cases before an administrative law judge.
• Represent the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
• Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports required by company management.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company/employer.
• Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• J.D. and proof of admission to Indiana bar; passing the bar in another Midwest state a plus.
• Proven track record in workers’ compensation or general liability or defense work or litigation experience.
• Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
• In depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Microsoft Word and Outlook experience required; Perfect Law legal software experience preferred.
• Firm and client confidentiality required.
