Job description

Insurance Defense Associate | Connecticut | Remote

$130,000–$210,000+ Base Salary | Full-Time, Permanent

Enjoy the work, but not so much the commute, office politics, or rigid schedule?

If you're an experienced insurance defense attorney who enjoys litigation but would welcome a little more flexibility, greater autonomy, and a genuine opportunity to progress, this could be well worth a conversation.

Distinct is working with an established, multi-practice law firm that's continuing to grow its litigation team and is looking for an experienced Insurance Defense Associate based in Connecticut.

The opportunity offers remote working, manageable billable-hour expectations, and a realistic path toward partnership.

And importantly, this isn't one of those remote positions where you're left working through an endless stack of files with little interaction or opportunity to develop.

You'll have the freedom to manage your own caseload, work directly with clients, gain further courtroom experience, and play a meaningful role in the firm's continued growth.

What Would You Be Doing?

You'll be handling a varied caseload of insurance defense litigation, with the independence to take matters from inception through resolution.

Your work will include:

  • Managing your own insurance defense caseload from initial investigation through to settlement or trial.
  • Handling litigation involving premises liability, professional liability, motor vehicle accidents, construction, and other general liability matters.
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
  • Taking and defending depositions, attending hearings, and representing clients in court.
  • Working directly with clients and insurers, providing practical advice and regular case updates.
  • Developing litigation strategies and taking ownership of how your matters progress.
  • Building on your existing trial experience, with opportunities to become increasingly involved in the courtroom.

The real appeal? You'll be trusted to do your job without someone constantly looking over your shoulder, while still having the support and resources of an established firm behind you.

What Are They Looking For?

Ideally, you'll have:

  • 4+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar — essential.
  • Experience independently managing cases from inception through resolution.
  • Trial experience and the confidence to handle substantive litigation responsibilities.
  • A background in premises liability, professional liability, motor vehicle, construction, or related defense matters.
  • Additional admission in New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania would be a bonus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and case management skills.

If you've built a solid insurance defense practice and are comfortable managing your own matters, I'd be keen to hear from you.

Why Is This One Worth Considering?

Finding a litigation role that offers genuine flexibility without limiting your career progression isn't always easy.

This opportunity offers a particularly attractive combination:

  • Competitive compensation: $130,000–$210,000+ depending on your experience.
  • Remote working: More flexibility over your working day and no unnecessary daily commute.
  • Manageable billable expectations: A more sustainable approach to your workload.
  • Real autonomy: The trust and independence to manage your cases and make meaningful decisions.
  • Further trial exposure: Opportunities to develop your courtroom experience and litigation skills.
  • Partnership potential: A genuine opportunity to build toward the next stage of your career.
  • Established firm, supportive team: The resources and stability of a multi-practice firm without sacrificing independence.

Whether you're looking for more flexibility, a clearer route to partnership, or simply a better balance between your professional and personal life, this is certainly an opportunity worth exploring.

Sometimes a ten-minute conversation is the easiest place to start.
