Location: John H. Stroger Hospital – Neurology

Job Summary

The Attending Physician IX in Neurology is a physician licensed to practice in Illinois, who has successfully completed an accredited residency in Neurology, and who is board-certified or board eligible. The physician possesses the knowledge and judgment to provide neurologic care to the patients of Cook County Health and Hospitals System in both inpatient and outpatient capacity. The physician participates in educational and quality improvement initiatives of the Division of Neurology.

Typical Duties

The physician is responsible for the medical care of patients with neurologic disease. In the hospital, the physician will admit, work‑up, diagnose, and manage patients and provide neurologic consultation for other providers. In the outpatient clinic, the physician will work up, diagnose, and manage patients and provide consultation services for other providers. The physician will take call and be available to provide neurologic care consistent with the highest standards.

• Meets and maintains the standards for hospital staff membership as set forth in the Medical Staff By‑Laws
• Manages patient care in a compassionate, respectful manner consistent with the highest standards of neurologic care
• Maintains current knowledge of the practice of neurology
• Maintains current, active, Illinois physician licensure
• Maintains federal and state‑controlled substance licensure
• Maintains Neurology board certification
• Meets Illinois requirements for Continuing Medical Education
• Meets hospital requirements for Annual Training, Infection Control, and Respiratory Testing
• Charts patient care in a complete, accurate, and professional manner
• Completes patient encounter notes in a timely manner
• Completes all requested pharmacy, insurance, disability, and other forms associated with the medical care of patients
• Responds to patient phone calls and other communications in a timely manner
• Completes evaluations of resident and students in a timely manner
• Maintains constructive, positive relationships with physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff
• Attends designated Division of Neurology and Department of Medicine meetings
• Cooperates with Division initiatives related to education and quality improvement
• Participates in Division Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluations
• Serves on hospital committees as requested
• Cooperates with investigations of patient, nurse or physician complaints regarding care

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) from a U.S. school of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, or a Canadian school of medicine accredited by the Committee for Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools, or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a school accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or a foreign medical degree with appropriate credentialing.
• Successful completion of a residency in Neurology accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education
• Certification in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American or American Osteopathic Board of Neurology, or board‑eligible with certification within five years of residency completion
• Current and active licensure as a physician in Illinois by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, or ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
• Current controlled substance licensure by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and controlled substance certification by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, or ability to obtain license prior to starting employment
