POSITION SUMMARY
- Performs cleaning and floor care in all assigned areas of the hospital to maintain an aseptic environment and prevent healthcare‑associated infection using standard cleaning procedures and chemicals.
- Cleans, waxes, extracts, and maintains floors, carpeting, elevators, and stairwells and assists with heavy cleaning throughout the hospital and other areas as needed.
OVERVIEW

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Perform specifically defined floor and carpet maintenance and operation of equipment as assigned by the Supervisor/Director.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of all floors in a timely manner, operating equipment effectively and following all safety rules.
- Assist with other Environmental Services duties to support the overall professional appearance and acceptance of patient and public areas; accept assignment changes with an appropriate attitude and teamwork spirit.
- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors, adhering to all safety rules when sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors.
- Cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture using appropriate cleaning methods and proper equipment; report any repair needs immediately.
- Dry and damp mops or machine scrubs corridors and elevator landings, sweep stairwells, and spot‑wash corridor and landing walls per schedule; comply with safety policy.
- As needed, bonnet clean or extract carpeted areas; check equipment condition upon sign‑out, clean equipment upon return, and report maintenance needs.
- Maintain all floors: dry mops, damp mops floors, and operate the floor scrubber daily; wet and dry strip floors and spray buff daily; vacuum and damp mop all stairways throughout the hospital daily.
- Maintain all carpets: vacuum, extract, bonnet clean, and spot‑clean all carpeting in an as‑needed basis following all safety rules.
- Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, departmental safety, and job‑specific hazards.
- Follow the hospital exposure control plans for blood‑borne and airborne pathogens.
- Promote effective working relations and work as part of a department/unit team intra‑ and inter‐deparmentally to meet departmental goals.
- Demonstrate respect and regard for all patients, families, visitors, and employees and maintain a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Use a “can‑do” attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program.
- Assist in other areas when needed; accept assignments with an appropriate attitude and teamwork spirit.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director or team leader in a timely manner; respond appropriately to requests for assistance.
- Work on an irregular schedule, including unscheduled overtime or called‑in shifts due to unanticipated changes in the workplace.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
