Job summary

The University of Texas at El Paso is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker to join the on-site team in El Paso, Texas. The role supports event set-ups, moves furniture and equipment, and drives trucks to transport items across campus.

Responsibilities also include assisting with recycling and inventory, and performing minor vehicle maintenance. A valid driver’s license, a GED or high school diploma, and forklift certification are required. On-call and overtime may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One year of related experience; may operate light equipment.
  • Must have valid state driver’s license.
  • Forklift certification may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual labor for special event set-ups and support Sun Bowl.
  • Use computer to search Web TMA for work orders.
  • Move, sort, and place materials on racks, shelves, or bins by size, type, color, or code.
  • Drive vehicles to transport items between warehouses and departments; transport crew and equipment to job sites.
  • Assist with event setups (Centennial Plaza, Fourth of July, Sun Bowl, etc.).
  • Assist with the Recycle Program and warehouse inventory.
  • Perform minor preventive maintenance on vehicles; be available on an on-call basis; overtime may be required.

40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 7:00am- 3:30pm. Flexibility is required on evenings and weekends.

Position Summary

Performs manual labor tasks for special event set-ups and provides support for Sun Bowl. Uses computer to search Web TMA for work orders. Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code. Drives vehicles to transport stored items from warehouse to departments or to pick up surplus for storage. Drives truck to transport crew and equipment to work site. Installs banners for convocations, pre-graduation ceremonies, graduations and LKD Hall of Champion events. Moves furniture, lab equipment, football equipment, chairs, tables, computer equipment, shade structures, band risers (Don Haskins Center), parking car stops, frame booths and the Miner Vision trailer. Assists with event set-ups such as: Centennial Plaza, Fourth of July, Minerpalooza, Homecoming LD Hall of Champions, Sun Bowl Football Games, Don Haskins, etc. Assists with the Recycle Program and the transportation of recyclable materials to recycling sites. Assists with warehouse inventory. Performs minor preventative maintenance on vehicles assigned to shop. Must be available on an “On Call” basis. Overtime required. Complies with all safety policies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Defensive Driving required. Forklift certification required. Complies with all State and University policies. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems. Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience

One year of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. May be required to operate light equipment.

Note: This position requires a valid, state issued driver’s license.
