Job summary

Job description

General Summary

Performs Personal Assistance Services (PAS) tasks as assigned under a client’s Individual Plan of Care, and no other tasks. Assists the client with the performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and household tasks necessary to promote independence and quality of life, and maintains the client in a clean, sanitary, and safe environment.

Provides assistance and/or standby assistance to clients as they perform activities for support, help, and protection from harm. Performs all duties listed on the client orientation form. Utilizes the Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) system to accurately record time worked and works the authorized hours for each client scheduled.

Reports significant changes in client circumstances to the immediate supervisor within twenty‑four (24) hours of awareness or by the next working day. Reports emergency or life‑threatening situations to Supervisor, physician, or health officials as soon as possible but no later than one (1) hour after awareness. Watches for safety hazards and acts immediately to remove risk of danger while on duty.

• Reads, understands, and follows all CHHS policies relevant to direct care services.
• Performs all authorized personal care tasks listed on the Personal Assistance Services (PAS) Plan of Care after orientation.
• Understands the EVV system, accurately records time, and notifies the immediate supervisor of any system issues promptly.
• Understands and can follow regulations and policies that apply to the provision of PAS under all programs in the State of Texas.
• Can cook, clean, do laundry, and maintain a safe and orderly home environment.

General

• Must have a clear criminal background check, be employable on the Employee Misconduct Registry for Texas, and not be excluded in both State and Federal OIGs.
• Must be compassionate and caring, have good control of emotions, and demonstrate respect and concern for the elderly and disabled.
• Must not be the legal or foster parent of a minor client, nor the spouse of the client (not applicable to Family Care).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Dependable, trustworthy, and demonstrate professionalism toward the client.
• Must be able to perform all tasks authorized under a client’s Individual Plan of Care.
• Must be able to operate a washing machine, dryer, vacuum cleaner, stove, and other household appliances safely and correctly.
• Must understand hazard symbols and use products appropriately to safeguard client safety and property.

Physical

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and assist in supporting the weight of various clients up to 200 lbs. during transfer and related tasks.
• Must be physically able to perform all personal care tasks listed on a PAS Plan of Care for programs in the State of Texas.
• Can bend and straighten safely to pick up items, clean, move small items or furniture, and navigate various surfaces in a home.
• Must be able to climb stairs.
• Ability to lift and carry household items, laundry, food trays, adaptive aids, etc.
• Must be able to see, smell, feel, and hear well enough to understand the client, address client needs, identify unsafe conditions, and maintain a safe environment.
• Ability to assess cleanliness, temperature, and overall comfort.
• Must be able to travel independently to the client’s home.
• Must be able to use household tools for cleaning, meal preparation, and laundry.
• Ability to prioritize activities and organize items.
• Must understand and follow instructions, use an EVV system, tell time, follow a schedule, and meet deadlines.
• Device-assisted help may be used where required.
