Job Summary: The Caregiver provides non-medical, in-home support services to clients in accordance with Texas Health and Human Services guidelines and agency policies. This role is responsible for assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting independence, ensuring safety, and enhancing overall quality of life.

The Caregiver provides non-medical, in-home support services to clients in accordance with Texas Health and Human Services guidelines and agency policies. This role is responsible for assisting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting independence, ensuring safety, and enhancing overall quality of life. Caregivers deliver compassionate, client-centered care while maintaining dignity and respect for each individual. Responsibilities include personal care assistance (such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting), light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders, companionship, and transportation to and from appointments as needed. The Caregiver must observe and report changes in the client's physical, emotional, or environmental condition to appropriate supervisory staff. This position requires adherence to care plans, infection control practices, client rights, and confidentiality standards in compliance with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) regulations for Home and Community Support Services Agencies. Successful candidates demonstrate reliability, strong communication skills, professionalism, and a commitment to providing high-quality care in a home setting.

Duties/Responsibilities

Personal Care (Activities of Daily Living – ADLs)

  • Assist clients with bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, and dressing
  • Support toileting, incontinence care, and peri-care
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and ambulation (including use of gait belts or assistive devices)
  • Provide skin care and help prevent pressure injuries

Companionship & Emotional Support

  • Provide companionship and engage in conversation
  • Encourage participation in activities and hobbies
  • Support mental and emotional well-being
  • Monitor for signs of depression, anxiety, or confusion

Meal Preparation & Nutrition

  • Prepare meals according to dietary needs and restrictions
  • Assist with feeding when necessary
  • Encourage proper hydration and nutrition
  • Monitor food intake and report concerns

Medication Support (Non-Medical)

  • Provide medication reminders as directed
  • Observe and report side effects or missed medications
  • Do not administer medications unless specifically authorized and trained per Texas regulations

Light Housekeeping

  • Perform light cleaning (laundry, dishes, vacuuming, trash removal)
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized living environment
  • Change bed linens and make beds

Transportation & Errands

  • Provide or arrange transportation to medical appointments, errands, or social activities
  • Assist clients in and out of vehicles safely
  • Accompany clients to appointments when required

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Observe and document changes in physical, mental, or emotional condition
  • Report concerns, incidents, or safety issues to supervisor promptly
  • Document care provided according to agency policy

Safety & Infection Control

  • Maintain a safe environment and identify fall risks
  • Follow infection control procedures (hand hygiene, PPE use as required)
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations and follow emergency protocols

Client Rights & Professional Conduct

  • Respect client rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times
  • Follow the established care plan and agency policies
  • Comply with Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) and Texas Administrative Code (TAC) requirements
